Best Baking Scale Grams

👤The scale is used in the kitchen to weigh ingredients for cooking. It is not meant to be accurate or have any useful features other than weighing small items or amounts in containers. It's made of plastic, so you can't put hot pots from the stove or containers that were in the oven on top of it. I'm pretty sure it would melt. The top is plastic, not metal, and it is easy to scratch and collect fingerprints after removing the protective plastic coating. If you like the color blue, you can leave this on it. It is light, thin and looks attractive. It's small enough to fit in a drawer or stick vertically on the side of a cabinet. It could be used as a display stand in your kitchen. It fails for a number of reasons that make me want to send it back. The display is built into the top so that it can be covered by plates or large containers. You can't read the display if you look underneath the item. The styrofoam plate in the first and second pictures is not 8 grams. Zeroes, twos, threes, fives, sixes, and nines all look like eights from an angle. When the display is not obscured, you can't see it from an angle. I couldn't get the dsiplay to stay on for more than 2 minutes. I don't know if there is a different scale around, but the display turns off after 2 minutes if the weigh doesn't change. The scale is not very accurate at the lower end. I poured 14g of rice into the container that the third picture shows, which is 2g. This would be registered on the scale as 2 grams. It shows the accuracy in ounces or grams. I couldn't get it to read 1g. The weight can change by a few grams or fractions of an ounce. Some scales at this price point are sensitive enough to weigh items as small as 1 gram. I would like it to do this. When you attempt to weigh items over 33 pounds, the scale will display "Err". I wouldn't expect 33 pounds to handle over 10 or 15 pounds for a small scale. The buttons respond, but you can't feel them or hear them. It would've been nice. If you want to turn it off, you have to hold the on/off button for a few seconds. The buttons are hard to read on the silver background. Why didn't they use higher contrast colors? I have a bigger scale for weighing packages and letters, but I wanted a smaller scale for smaller items and liquids. The scale doesn't do the job. I'll be looking for a better scale that will cost more. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would think that those who deal with drugs know how to make accurate scales. That's right.

👤The scale is nice. It is easy to store after use. It doesn't take a lot of space. It's not so small that you can't put a large bowl on it. The display is easy to see. It has a lot of units, probably even more. The scale has a large capacity of 33 lbs. Most kitchen scales are not that high. The scale has a blue film on it. The primary function of this scale is not good for coffee making. The scale is bad because I experienced two things. The tare feature is not consistent. Place your vessel on the scale. Hit the ground. Coffee grounds can be added. Remove the vessel and shake the grounds for consistency. The scale reads different weights. Why pay so much for a scale that is not precise when precision is in the name? The scale doesn't work as described. I could never be sure that the displayed weight was accurate because the weight doesn't increase by.1 intervals. If you're the sort of person who is going to spend this much on a kitchen scale for your coffee, you are probably a detail-oriented freak like me. The touch screen is unresponsive most of the time.

👤I have become a fan of OXO's other kitchen gizmos and purchased this scale. I decided to upgrade my scale as a home baker and coffee maker. There are two major complaints that I have. It is not accurate to 0.1g. The reading doesn't change if the scale says 30.0 g and I add a coffee bean. A second bean. A third bean. A fourth bean increases the reading to 30.4 g. The touch buttons are the second complaint. I like to pour my water directly from the pot when I do french press. If you dribble a little water over the side of the carafe, it could also dribble over the power button, which will re-zero the scale when you're done. Talk about being frustrated.

👤The OXO 11 lbs scale seems to work well for me. The 6 lbs version does not offer grams in tenths. The scale seems incapable of providing anything close to accurate weights. I would add coffee grounds to the tare container with no change in weight. The weight would shoot up after being added. Remove the holding container and set it back down to get another weight. Oxo was rated well. I'll be looking for another scale producer.

If you are fine with 1.0 gram accuracy, then you should be fine with this scale, but it can't deliver accuracy within 0.1 grams. It is a good looking scale. The touch buttons are easy to use. Baking and cooking can be done with the inclusion of several measurements. It's a miss and a swing. It would have made for a good looking scale for pour over coffee.

👤The new Oxo scale is a great kitchen scale for use with pour over coffee and I chose it for the reasons below. The Oxo has the features I was looking for, but it was too expensive, had issues with breaking after a short time, and didn't have the precision I was looking for. The scale is not stable and will temporarily mess up the measurement if you press the touch sensitive buttons. If you lightly press the buttons, and the measurement corrects very quickly, it's not really an issue. The new Oxo scale works great for pour over coffee, which is my main reason for getting a kitchen scale. I gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars, but took a star for the slight instability.

It stays on until I switch it off, it has several options for auto off and measurement speed, I use it always on. When turned on, it does a self check for a few seconds but after that, it reads when you add anything. There is no lag or delay. It has an accessory that will allow you to plug it in and not have to worry about battery life or how long you have it on. I can only estimate the accuracy, but based on known portion sizes, it seems very accurate and always repeatable if you remove something and put it back on the scale. It is backlit so it is easy to see. If you need a cover for the keypad for some applications, the top can be removed. It is a mix of metal and plastic, but it has been durable so far. The small manual has several user selectable options that can be tailored to your needs.

I hold no resentments, and my waistline is appreciative, even though I am often disgruntled with this scales spot-on accurate portion measures. The bowl fits onto the scale in the perfect fit that my jeans only dream of, and makes storage easy, but unfortunately impossible to lose, since you will have to measure your snacks without the excuse of having the bowl to hold them. It is a mixed blessing.

If you want excellent results, weigh your ingredients, but for example 8 oz. of flour will always be 8 oz, no matter if it's sifted, banged down, or whatever. This is useful when weighing liquids because you can simply weigh your bowl and eliminate the need for measuring into a cup and then pouring the liquid into the bowl. If you weigh sour cream in a mixing bowl or cooking vessel, all of it ends up in the product, instead of being left in a cup that you can't remove. If you want to add an ingredient, press the "zero" button and continue adding ingredients, as if you were working with an empty container, then having a scale with the "zero" feature is really helpful. This can work with up to 11 pounds of ingredients. You can use this for weighing packages for mailing, where the cost of postage is calculated in ounces and pounds. You will never go back if you are annoyed by recipes that only give you ingredient amounts by volume. I add information to my recipe when I have a recipe that only has volume measurements. You can find accurate weight measurement on the internet. Being able to measure in grams is very useful for small amounts of flour. You will raise your baking game if you purchase one of these. Go. bake!

There are two To turn the scale off, I have to hold the on/off/tare combination button and count to one thousand one, one thousand two. Sometimes that doesn't work so the process has to be repeated again. It was very frustrating. The on/off switch needs to be an actual switch that clicks when touched. I know it's on or off. The tare function should be removed from this switch. Tare should have its own switch because it is used constantly. There are three I have to cycle to get to the unit that I want, because the "units switch" has 6 units represented by one switch. It doesn't happen if I can do this once and stay there. 5 more pushes are needed to get the units back to where I started after I realize that it's not correct. This is a constant problem. I'm on this and I think it's a good idea to remove the measurement from the scale because it's not a weight measurement. Tell people to use the gram units, that's crazy. It's not possible to measure both water and honey on a scale because volume can't be measured by a scale. There are a lot of issues with these multi-function switches. If the units were reduced to 4 being grams, kilograms, ounces, and pounds with a 2-second hold, most of the problem would be solved. Or make a switch. The importance is on top of it. I don't understand why a company can't recognize these simple issues if they were only used by people in the company. Designers don't interact with users. It will probably take the Japanese or the Chinese to follow through on these changes, but I hope that one of these scale companies is willing to make them.

👤I tested it with a 500g weight. It was well outside of the tolerance. After calibrating it with a 100g weight, it seemed to measure correctly. I noticed a serious additional accuracy problem. When you add small amounts of weight to the scale, it ignores the weight. A piece of paper weighing 0.8g was set onto the scale as a test. It was zero.
