I wiped it down with a dry cloth. Before heating it up, it should be completely dry. It shouldn't be seasoned either. I heated it up to 250 for 30 minutes and then raised it to 450 for an hour to burn off fumes but there was no off gassing. I've used it to make a few pizzas. Food items can be thrown away. I heated this stone in my oven for over an hour without any problems. It takes time to heat up. It's probably not heating the stone up long enough for people to complain about pizzas not being cooked in the middle. I put the stone in my cold and turned the heat up to get it to go to that temp, then left it there for about an hour. Then I cook my homemade pizza at 500 degrees and then turn the temp down to 400. Pizza dough was very good and very firm. This stone is perfect for an oven stone. Give your stone enough time to come up to temp. I would suggest you heat it up for an hour after the oven reaches a certain temperature.

I am able to use soap to give me reassurance that my dishes are actually clean because of the black top coat. I used to not be able to use soap on my stone ware. This product stays in the oven. I use it to make frozen pizzas, bake frozen biscuits, and when I cook a dish, I sit it on top of the stone. When I need to wash the stone, it goes back into the oven. The stone also had a pizza cutter. It is very nice. I absolutely adore my pizza cutter. The cutter is of the highest quality. It is smooth and cuts well. This product is very good. This thing is large. It won't fit in my oven. It's a good size. I've eaten pizza on it so far. I also make biscuits, cinnamon rolls and bread on this stone, and I haven't found anything that wouldn't work on it. I found a slot in my cookie sheet cabinet where I could clean up easily. It would have taken a day to de bur the cut plate edges if I had them cut this. I put the plate in the oven at 450 degrees for 45 minutes and then cooled it down. Did that twice. This will make pizza and bread better. It is different.

I was happy with the results of the second one until I purchased a steel pizza stone. The oven is about 500 degrees. My pizza cooks perfectly after I allowed the steel pizza stone to come up to temperature. The dough is very crisp and cooked nicely. I would have to leave the pizza in for too long in order to get a good crust, which would cause the top to overcook. Since it's steel, I won't have to worry about it breaking. I had to be careful with my old ceramic stone, which I kept in my oven. The thing is a beast. It might be how heavy it is that someone would have bad things to say about it. This thing works so that's no consequence to me. I can't recommend this stone more highly. If you like homemade pizza, this is a great purchase.
