If you want to fill the torch with butane, you can put the nozzle from your butane into the female end of the torch. In short-medium length blasts, fill it. The torch should start to feel full a few times. You have to walk across the room to get away from the butane gas. To get to the actual level of gas, you need to purge the air out a few times. You can either lock it off or on for safety or continuous flame without holding thetrigger. A good flame pattern makes it very hot very quickly. It is possible to do light soldering but be careful around sensitive materials because it will instantly melt and burn delicate things and could easily catch nearby flammables ablaze. If it had a better fuel valve that worked with all standard fuel sources, it would get 5 stars.

👤The lighter is the best for safety because it takes me 15 times to get it to light, and then the flame goes out after a few seconds, even with a full tank. The Sondiko 400 torch was better quality and more consistent than this model, and I owned it before. I bought this one because it is an upgrade from the 400 and was cheaper. The lighter is unreliable and wont light the majority of the time. If you want that spark to catch the butane, you have to crank it up, because the spark is nowhere near where the gas comes out. They last 6-9 months with a lot of use. They are more reliable than the flow regulation. Most torches wear out first when starters wear out. If you fill it up every night and find it empty the next day, it can get expensive, which is why this model has a tendency to develop a butane leak. The unit I received was the worst leak I have ever encountered. I filled it to full, lit it to set the gas flow, and it leaked the entire tank when I was ready to use it for the first time.
