Best Baking Torch with Gas

👤I got the torch for free from FunOwlet. This is similar to the other Torch brand, and it's on the Amazon.com website. The other torch starts much better than this one because of the small dent on the spout. Since I only review 1 unit of each, it's possible that I have a slightly bad unit on the Tengyes brand. The unit starts on the first attempt a lot. This unit also has the same issues with the gas regulator. The gas regulator is on low. You can see in the video that you turn this unit upside down. The flame is strong. This can be dangerous if you don't expect it. If you need to turn this unit upside down, you need to be careful.

👤I don't have to buy a bunch of stuff. I have a portable gas stove. That takes the same canisters. It is great. I like it. It was tried out. Don't touch the metal price because it gets hot fast. Give it time to cool down. It will be a great touch.

👤I bought a Chef Master torch from Restaurant Depot for 25% more than it cost, and I already had a torch. It is ok, but only has one setting. This torch has a front adjustment knob that can be used for a wide dispersed flame or a sharp, narrow flame. It is a nice feature. I have had an issue with it not lighting up when the adjustment knob is turned around. When the front knob is turned clockwise, it will light up. The torch wouldn't light the second time I tried it. I was going to return it when I realized it was an issue. If you go a long time between uses, try not to forget it.

👤I have used a Iwatani torch weekly for the past five years. I bought a second one to keep in our travel trailer. They ate $65.98 more than I paid 5 years ago. I wanted to see if I could find a similar model for less money than I paid for the Iwatani. The Iwatani was going for a quarter of the price, but I came across this model which was a quarter of the price. It is the same as the Iwatani with the only difference being the shape of the connection. The Iwatani is round while this one is a star. I am not sure about this piece. When I connect it to a can, I hear a sssshhh sound for a split second as if a little gas is leaking and doesn't feel 100% secure, but only by a small fraction. I don't smell gas, it doesn't make a sound, and if I move it around it doesn't appear to leak though I'm a little concerned it will hold up over time. The Iwatani does not make this sound. If I was going to buy another Iwatani, I would 100% purchase this one again because it is a great deal for the money.

👤I love this torch! I use it for medical marijuana vessels that need a high temperature flame and it performs better than the smaller micro torches. This torch is great for heating up a dabbing vessel. It's a great product for people with painful joints in their hands, as it only requires a medium-light squeeze on the igniter. It has been great for my joints. It would be easier to use for arthritis patients. When the gas is low in a canister, it is liable to tip over. I keep it in a tall metal cylinder. The flame will be erratic when you add a new canister of gas. When it does, just turn it down. As the gas in the can starts to decrease, it will not do this as frequently. The gas cans are available at Sam's. I've seen them at supply stores. I have had this for 6 months and it has performed well.

👤The picture on the package was different to describe the canister this torch is for. I bought a wrong torch from another vendor, it was for a smaller canister with a long nozzle. I need something that is cost-effective.

👤We can attach it to the butane canister. We don't have to re-fill the butane because it's not necessary. I found it hard to start, the ignition is not strong enough. Sometimes I have to use a long spout candle lighter to start it rather than wasting my butane trying to start it. If I turn the torch upside down, the flame will go higher than in the video. It's easy to tip over when the canister is empty, so I need to warn other. When the canister is empty, the design should add some counter balance to the spout.

I purchased Gasone butane canister and Iwatani butane canister on the Amazon. I am glad I bought this torch because they are cheap and work well. It is easy to turn on and off. Instructions are easy to understand. It's easy to control. The flame is around 22 cm when fully revved up. I use it to cook creme brulee, charring beef for Middle Eastern food, grilling skin side of fish for interesting Japanese touch, and touching up the skin of chicken. Cheap fuel, hot, wide flame, and big are the pros. It sits in the hand with a fuel can attached. Trigger does not control fuel flow. I thought it would be bad at first, but it would be a pain to hold the gun down for extended use. Don't buy this torch for a kid. Do not use this product in a creative way.

👤I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to find butane that fit, but I decided to buy this one and one with the canister that you refill, because any butane canister with a notch will fit this. It works well. The instructions are inside the package. Line up the notch and twist to hook it on the butane. The gas is on/off with the back button. The torch has a ring on it. You don't have to hold it in, but you can if it's more comfortable, if you pull the igniter once. It's easy to turn it off and I wasn't worried that gas was still active. You twist to detach. I like that it won't be attached to the butane when not in use. The torch barrel stays warm after use, so I just set that aside until it cools off. It works well and feels good on my small hands. It doesn't flare out when I tip it to get in, like my dad's blowtorch does. This product is easy to use and I highly recommend it.

👤I loved the torch. I've been using torches for a long time. This one was easy to use and started clicking right away. That was until it failed. The torch failed, but it started releasing butane from beneath where it connects to the can, and then it exploded into a fireball. I was able to shut it off quickly, but it didn't stop the spray. It continued to release butane and flames and quickly got out of control, burning my fingers, so I dropped it to the ground. I used the fire extinguisher to douse the flames before something caught on fire. Not good.

I throw it on a disposable tank and burn it out of a cigar or cut it out of something. I liked the design because it would keep the end off the ground and prevent a fire.

👤I use a torch a lot in my life. The big flame is one of the main selling points to me. The butane is held in a tank that is too small. Bigger flame means quicker heating, which is always a positive thing. A decent sized tank means less having to fill it, worry about having a butane in reach at all times, and less chances for something to break or go wrong. This torch had no of that. It is difficult to judge something like this from the pictures. You have to believe in something. My first experience with a different torch was a success. I thought I would get lucky again. The black knob on the back of most torches that use a similar design, allows you to adjust the size of flame, let's you lock/unlock, etc, does absolutely nothing. There was no reason to add it then. I guess I will buy them in store.

👤Horrified and dangerous! After a few tries, it burst into a full fire, like a small flame thrower. I made sure thetrigger wasn't locked so that it didn't extinguish the flame. The flame had to be destroyed. I tried adjusting the butane output setting and it didn't work. I contacted the company to see if they would replace it. They have little understanding of the English language and requested a video to demonstrate the problem. I explained the situation and packaged it up for shipping. I didn't hear back. I tried to return it to Amazon, but was told I couldn't because I didn't know where to find it. The deadline to return it was on Sunday, but I missed it. I'm stuck with it. Very sad!

👤I bought this as a gift for my husband to use as a way to finish meats, rather than having to heat up the grill or cast iron pans to crisp the outside. It took him a few minutes to learn how to control the flame, and to remember that it's important to pat the meat dry before using the torch, but once he did, this worked like a charm. 👤Do not buy because of a safety issue. I have used this device three times. The first two times were started without any issues. When I tried to turn it on to light up some candles, I immediately heard a leak in the gas canister. All the noobs should be adjusted to tighten and leak. There is a I plugged it back in after taking it out of the canister to see if anything was wrong. When I light up the candles, I push the ignition and the handle explodes into flames, I threw it onto the ground as the flames were all over my hand. I took off my sweater and wrapped the unit in a canister to stop the fire from burning when my family was in the same room.

👤There was an update to the previous positive review. It wasn't a user error... It is junk and unsafe. I used it for a short time for my crafting and got used to its unpredictable nature but yesterday it started leaking gas around the handle, like other reviewers experienced. The flames went down my arm. I was able to put out the fire but the gas kept leaking. I thought I could stop it. The entire can of butane leaked out of my house in the morning. I opened my windows so that we wouldn't be affected. I will look for a torch that is safe. Don't buy it. The torch has done its job. I use it to warm up the glue. It has been difficult to control the amount of flame that comes out as it will be calm and then all of a sudden shoot a massive flame. Maybe that is user error? I might be shaking the gas up too much. I am not sure. I hope to get used to it quickly. I used a smaller kitchen torch, but it went through butane way too fast.

👤I bought this torch because of the claim that it can be used at any angle without causing a flare-up. It isn't true. It goes from being a focused torch to an out of control mini flame-thrower after three or four minutes. I wanted the flexibility to tilt it at odd angles, but it simply doesn't work as promised. It works if you hold the can straight up, but it is advertised to do more than that, and unfortunately it doesn't live up to the promise.

👤I needed this to help remove the bubbles in my art. It works great, as you can see in the pic. I keep the frame small so that it doesn't burn. If I turn the temp control all the way, it will light the woods in my firepit. It will be empty and you will need to refill it. These can be obtained from most of the gas station.

👤This torch is great. It has a switch that adjusts the volume of flames. There is a lock switch on the top. One of the igniters is broken and it's useful for my range. The blow torch is a better alternative to using matches or lighters. It doesn't have a fuel indicator, so you won't know how much gas is in the torch.

👤I have not gotten any butane yet, so I don't know how well this works. I want to complain about how I received it. There are no instructions inside the box. There are instructions on the back of the box. The person who stuck the stickers on the diagram was brilliant, but not to me. I can't see the diagram that tells me how to use the product. I can probably find it online, but this is stupid. Why do this? There are lots of places on this box where you can put a sticker on the item without ruining the information the user needs to use it safely.

👤I was hoping for a consistent flame, but for the price, I shouldn't expect much. While in the lowest position, this spits out the kind of flame I would expect for about 3 seconds, then it gets 'choppy' and large bursts of yellow flame start sputtering out making it dangerous for cigar lighting and unusable and inconsistent for food. In the highest flame mode, it's a borderline flame thrower with a huge yellow flame greater than a foot out that rises towards the ceiling. Disappointed.

👤The torch lighter can sit on its own and not be held, and it can be locked if you want to use it for a while. Make sure you follow the directions on the box on how to fill it, and then let it set for a moment after you have filled it. My friend had a similar one and didn't follow the directions for filling it, but it lasted him for a day.

👤I don't write reviews but I want people to know that this thing is great. I have been using blazer big shots because they are so good and last so long with heavy daily use. Let's see how good of a knock it is. What is the worst thing that can happen at 1/2 the price? There is a question. wow... The only difference is that this one has 2 flames and the other one has only one. The dial and click starter are the same as a big shot. The double flame is the same as the whole thing. I wanted the world to know that you can save money and get a better product. I have 3 and now 2 more.

👤I have had this for 4 months and nothing has gone wrong. When it shuts off, you know that the gas level is not enough to hold a flame. If you hear the gas coming out but can't keep the flame, then you need to refill it. Depending on how long you leave it on, filling it up once can last a week or two. It works well, you can use the flame at the highest point, but it is strong. The top part is metal and the body is plastic, which is strong, and you can find it in pelican cases. I was filling up the torch lighter. It's probably done that many times. I think I filled it too much because the gas wasn't coming out right. It sounded weird. I didn't click the spark button immediately because I was skeptical. I am crazy. I did eventually. My hairs on the back of my hand were singed when the whole thing caught fire. The gas was closed a couple seconds after. After realizing I couldn't blow it out or drop it, fire got to the size of an apple. I don't know if it's my fault for filling it up too much or if it's just old and it's all gone.

👤When I buy a Chinese torch, I have no illusions about what I am buying. I have owned this model many times. The Chinese model is my favorite, it has the best feel in the hand. They last 6-9 months with a lot of use. They are more reliable than the flow regulation. Most torches wear out first when starters wear out. If you fill it up every night and find it empty the next day, it can get expensive, which is why this model has a tendency to develop a butane leak. The unit I received was the worst leak I have ever encountered. I filled it to full, lit it to set the gas flow, and it leaked the entire tank when I was ready to use it for the first time. I filled it all the way up again. It was empty the next time I reached for it, after I used it one time. I am assuming it was factory defects or damaged when it was put into the elaborate packaging this company uses.

👤When buying a torch, what to look for is 1. A hand guard is also used to prevent accidental use. 2. The fuel gauge is hard enough to fill. 3. There is a flame knob. 4. Don't pay more. There are disadvantages. The instructions on the description page are better than what is in the box. 1. If you want to drain the fuel and air compression from the torch, you can press the refill valve with a screwdriver. I can't see why this should be done during every refill. 2. The butane can and nozzle should be held with the upside down torch. Press butane gently down for five seconds and then repeat. I can't see the butane level in bright lighting. A poor fit is when it doesn't want to take more and can sometimes happen after half filled. This is the biggest problem I have. The fuel canister should not be pumped while fueling. 3. It's best to wait a few minutes for gas to warm up before using. You have to wait 5 seconds before trying again if you are like stupid me, and you have to release the switch before the locktrigger to relight. This is the second biggest problem with the device. Again, mostly with stupid me. There is an adjustment knob at the bottom. There was no mention of it. 4. Wait 5 minutes between uses. Don't refill when it's hot. The full tank is supposed to last 60 minutes, but it only lasts 8 minutes at the highest setting, which is enough for three steaks. I can live with this. It's still the best buy because better would cost more. Only use the best butane. Don't use tip plastic too close to the food because it can affect delivery of butane to the torch tip. Spending a lot more money would cure the problem. You should always wear glasses if you use a fireproof surface. It's also useful for plumbing, jewelry, art, or just lighting a cigar. It's great for making caramelizing sugar, melting cheese or roasting vegetables. My most common use is to create maillard effect on steaks. I find torched sous vide steak to be better than pan fried or grilled due to the lack of burn flavor, and it can be cooked simply by adding hot water to a beer cooler. The hotter is better. The best alternative is a chimney grill starter. There is no clear winner between the two flavors. This is not hard. This can do more. I bought this. I'm happy.

👤The review has been updated. The seller contacted me several months after the initial purchase to ask if I wanted a replacement. The seller sent another one for me to review as I declined the refund. What follows is the new review. I kept the original review for reference. The seller has been great. The torch is heavy, has a narrow base, and a small butane tank, which is not ideal for my uses. The lock mechanism works, but it will not stay lit longer than 7 seconds even with the lock engaged, because of the pressure placed on it. I would not recommend this torch for anyone who needs to torch in the kitchen for more than one person. The 90 degree head-tilt move is a good option. The original review is still valid. It took 5 minutes to break. It looks and feels good. The flame wouldn't stay lit for more than a few seconds at a time. The well placed lock button was not used. I dropped it from a seated position and the ceramic piece from the tip broke and is useless now. Maybe it was a problem before Humpty-Dumptys left? It is in the trash now.

👤If you can fill it with butane, it's a P.I.A. and it works great. I had to find a smaller screwdriver and fill it with the bottom slots to screw it in. It's not a bad price for what I paid and it works better than most cheap smokeshop torches if you can get butane in it and adjust it.

The replacement unit works great. This is definitely worth a 5-star and I appreciate the excellent customer service. There are no comments The gas comes on long after the spark so it doesn't light. I can use a lighter to light butane on fire if I want to verify that it works. It's not even a short delay, the gas comes on after a few seconds, and it's not going to work.

👤I use this for artistic purposes. Percent for that! It's so easy to position it because it has two ways to do it. The flame works at any setting, and works while being tilted, which caused my previous torch to shut off. It works great for cooking and presentation touches.

When not in use, always turn the torch off. This item is used for toasting and crafts that need heat. This product has helped me a lot.

This one will be lighter than you are looking for. I used it for a few months and it worked out well. It's a great idea to start a BBQ with a visable flame length of almost a foot. The lowest gives enough to stay lit. Excellent out put. The base stand makes it easy to set it down quickly. There is a If you're looking for a great lighter for cooking, art or recreational use. I didn't know until the instructions said to release all pressure in lighter refill. That's a main cause for the other ones. I think so.
